As someone with a diagnosed mental health condition, I find it frustrating beyond belief when authors decide that a mental health condition one, ties things up in a neat little bow, and two, is the perfect justification for violence. While I always focus on spoiler free reviews, I think it’s important that readers go into this book knowing that mental health ends up playing a key factor in the conclusion being drawn, and it was rather unsavoury.

While I did enjoy the book, I will say I found the explaination and ‘reasoning’ behind the motives and murders to be problematic. As pieces are put together in the build up to the conclusion, it becomes apparent that there is so much more than just a secondary school at the heart of this story. We don’t gather many clues from the second perspective, but what we are allowed access to is interesting to say the least. So when a series of murders target the schools brightest and best, the pressure is on. The students at Morton Academy are high-achievers, selected based on academic excellence. The book is written mainly from Liz’s perspective, along with a second voice we hear from on ocassion the one responsible for the deaths. The explosive YA thriller, with over 5 million TikTok views and counting. Now she’s trying to function without the scars – physical as well as emtoional – she has been left with, all while navigating the demands of the school life she is desperate to escape back into. She survived, but a fellow pupil wasn’t so lucky.
